Imagen Award Winners Announced at 19th Annual Beverly Hills Gala
LOS ANGELES, CA, Aug. 26, 2004 — Recipients of the 2004 Imagen Awards were announced this evening at the 19th Annual Imagen Awards Gala that was held at the Regent Beverly Wilshire Hotel in Beverly Hills.
Hosting the event was award-winning singer, songwriter, actor Carlos Ponce, and providing musical entertainment for the evening was the E. Orchestra.
The Imagen Awards, presented in 28 categories by the Imagen Foundation, were established in 1985 to encourage and recognize the positive portrayal of Latinos in all media, and to increase Latino representation at all levels of the entertainment industry.
Also recognized at the gala were five honorees who were recipients of Imagen’s special awards. The awardees were Placido Domingo (Lifetime Achievement), John Leguizamo (Norman Lear Writer’s Award), Guillermo del Toro (Creative Achievement), Fox Television Stations, Inc. (Vision), and Sheila E. (Humanitarian).
Executive producer of the awards program is Helen Hernandez, who has served in this capacity for the past 13 years.
The Imagen Awards are held with the support of such companies as Wells Fargo, Lincoln Mercury, ABC Inc., Fox Television Stations, Inc. The Hollywood Reporter, Walt Disney Company, and the Academy of Television Arts and Sciences and its President Todd Leavitt.
