Winners of 27th Annual Imagen Awards Announced Honoring Latinos in Entertainment

Black Tie Gala Held at Beverly Hilton Hotel Honoring Latino Talent, Latino-Themed Projects

August 10, 2012 – Beverly Hills, Calif.  Winners of the 27th Annual Imagen (Spanish for “image”) Awards, honoring positive portrayals of Latinos and Latino culture in entertainment, were announced last night at a star-studded dinner ceremony held in the International Ballroom of the Beverly Hilton Hotel.  The awards, hosted by breakout Latina star Gina Rodriguez, were handed out in front of an audience of approximately five hundred attendees representing the entertainment industry and Latino community.  Among celebrities in attendance were Lou Diamond Phillips, Wilmer Valderrama, Ian Gomez, Constance Marie, Jorge Garcia, Hector Elizondo, Tyler Posey, and many other Latino performers.  Also in attendance was U.S. Secretary of Labor and former local congresswoman, the Honorable Hilda L. Solis.

Helen Hernandez, president of The Imagen Foundation, said: “We are proud of the accomplishments that our Latino talent continues to make to the entertainment industry and for those companies that see the value in providing these opportunities.” Winners were selected in 23 different categories from film, television and the internet, and judged by an independent panel of entertainment industry executives and Latino community leaders.  Special recognition went to Jenni Rivera: Latin music artist and superstar; star and Executive Producer of “I Love Jenni” and Executive Producer “Jenni Rivera Presents: Chiquis ‘n Control” who received the President’s Award. There was also special Performance by “Jessica” from The Electric Company: Priscilla “P-Star” Diaz.  Producer, Director and Community Leader Moctezuma Esparza received the Lifetime Achievement Award.
