Imagen Mourns the Loss of Our Sister, Lupe Ontiveros

Lupe Ontiveros was as big as life but, unfortunately, her life was cut short all too soon. A trailblazer in the world of entertainment, she was driven by the passion for her craft and took great pride in her roles. Whether she was a dramatic actress, such as in Zoot Suit or Selena, or comedic roles, Lupe always gave her all.  She loved to make people laugh, and would always be found at the Imagen Awards lighting up the room with her winning smile or dead pan comedic humor.  We will always remember her as a regular at Imagen, always ready to lend a helping hand.

Lupe devoted her life to the power of service.  Outside of entertaining others, she had a life as a Social Worker where she protected the rights of families and children, in addition to being a wife and mother.  As a mother to two children with hearing impairments, she was a tireless advocate for the deaf and had a tremendous skill at sign language.  A Renaissance woman and pioneer, she will be sorely missed.

Rest in peace dear sister and friend.
