About Imagen
The Imagen Awards, an annual program of the Imagen Foundation, was established in part by legendary television producer Norman Lear, in response to the disparity and negative portrayals of Latinos/Hispanics in film and television. The awards have the distinction of being the only awards program that celebrates the positive contributions of Latinos/Hispanics to the entertainment industry and the general public through a submission process.
For over 30 years, the Imagen Foundation, a not-for-profit 501(c)3 organization, has worked to advocate positive images of Latinos/Hispanics in all forms of entertainment media; acknowledge the positive contributions and achievements of Latinos/Hispanics in front of and behind the camera; and encourage diversity in the entertainment industry.
Awards Categories
The Imagen Awards recognizes talent and productions in a variety of film and television categories, including Best Feature Film, Best Actor in Film, Best Actress in Film, Best Primetime Television Program, Best Actor in Television, and Best Actress in Television.
Additionally, the Foundation recognizes the achievements of distinguished individuals through special awards such as the Norman Lear Writer’s Award, Lifetime Achievement Award, and Creative Achievement Award.
Shorts/Student Film Competition
In an effort to support the growing number of online content creators, may of whom are millenials, the Imagen Foundation is launching a special competition for web series and short films. Content creators will be able to submit their series or short film for an Imagen Award that will be voted on by the public. Content creators will be encouraged to promote voting for their project on social media. The winner of the online competition will be announced in advance of the 32nd Annual Imagen Awards Ceremony and invited to attend the event.
This special competition provides a branding opportunity for a company or organization who supports creative content from diverse and multi-cultural talent.
