36th Annual Imagen Awards Announces Winners

LOS ANGELES, CA (October 10, 2021) — The 2021 Imagen Awards were announced this evening during a live-streamed ceremony exclusively on PBSSoCal.org and KCET.org. The awards were hosted by Aida Rodriguez (Last Comic Standing), Chuey Martinez (Dish Nation), Isabella Gomez (One Day at a Time), and Karrie Martin Lachney (Gentefied) and recognized Latinas and Latinos in the entertainment industry who work both in front of and behind the camera.

The theme of this year’s Imagen Awards is “A Celebration of Our Community: Diverse, Talented, and United.” Each year the Imagen Awards recognizes an array of Latino talent by honoring and celebrating ground-breaking performances, storytelling, and powerful diverse programs.

This year’s Imagen Award winners include Netflix’s Ya No Estoy Aquí (I’m No Longer Here) for both Best Feature Film and Best Director, Hulu’s Love Victor for Best Comedy Primetime Program and Best Actor Michael Cimino, and FX’s Pose for Best Drama Primetime Program and Best Actress Mj Rodriguez.

The Norman Lear Writer’s Award was presented to playwright and television writer Tanya Saracho. Saracho is the creator, showrunner, and executive producer of the critically acclaimed series on Starz, Vida.

The Awards Show also featured special musical performances by artists Bomba Yemaya, Las Cafeteras, Las Colibrí, Ally Brooke, and Grammy Award winners Ozomatli.

The 36th Annual Imagen Awards winners were determined by an independent panel of entertainment industry executives and Latina and Latino community leaders.

The Imagen (pronounced ee-mah-hen) Awards program was established in 1985 from a suggestion by veteran television producer Norman Lear to encourage and recognize the positive portrayals of Latinos in the media.
